Fallen Soldiers Picnic

Fallen Soldiers Picnic

It is Memorial Day weekend, and while some see it as a kickoff for the summer picnic, it’s really a time for all Americans who died in all wars to honor. In Harbor Creek, a society which has lost three of his own – a “fallen picnic” has become a tradition.

picnic held this year at Shades Beach, honors the memory of Army Sgt .. Donald Oaks Jr., slain in Iraq in 2003, Cpl. Jarrid King, who died in Afghanistan in January 2011, when his unit was hit by an explosive, and Airman Bryan Bell, was slain in an IED attack in Afghanistan last January. The picnic was open to the public for a $ 10.00 donation. All money benefits Wounded Warrior Project.

Two of the father of the soldier gave us an interview. Rick Bell said: “Although I am very proud, never been the pride of the world the hole of losing one of my children to fill. He fought for our right to vote and in the best country in the world live with the best army in the world. “

Donald Oaks Sr. told us:” It is a tragedy, but we have a positive out of it, and any positive to take away some of the pain. It is great to see the community come together and do something positive like this. “

Earlier in the day many of them on a picnic together on a golf scramble, which also raised money for the wounded warrior project, to help things easier for the soldiers who come back home
