Erie is "Perry 200" Celebration begins

raising three flags, the Erie’s “Perry 200″ party officially started. It honors Erie role in the war in 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie. It is a fight where a young naval captain named Oliver Hazard Perry, the use of ships, built in Erie, miraculously defeated the mighty British.

“Think about it. 27-year-old. You come to the desert, in principle, what this was, and you are told,” to build a raft and go to the sea and defeated the British. “I think it is amazing when you think about. It’s a David and Goliath story,” says Barry Grossman, Erie County Executive.

“Perry 200″ raised $ 1.5 million to an 18-month celebration to hold kick-off with a ceremony Monday in Erie’s Perry School.

“Those of us who have worked with it, we have been waiting for this day. We are very excited. And we think the community will be resurrected,” says Joyce Savocchio, 200 Perry, Co-Chairman.

During t he kickoff, the committee announced that the celebration events will be reported to Erie in a scale never seen before to bring. Fireworks to measure them in every major city.

“They are going to be kicked out of 4 different locations. North and South, East and West. It is a screen that looks like Washington and New York to take,” said Dr. William Garvey, Jefferson Educational Society. The Association is the largest sponsor of the celebration.

It was also announced that one of the biggest festivals ever Tall Ships on the Great Lakes will be held. The Commission will also sponsor a big parade that will draw 150,000 people.

“They will beard and beer. They will be burgers. There will be contests sideburns. We want the city to have a good time,” says Garvey.

“Perry 200″ will also instructive. Students who witnessed the flag raising ceremony, and many other Erie students will participate in a special curriculum, focused on the war in 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie.

UPMC collect unwanted medicines

A major two-day local effort to collect unwanted prescription drugs to get started today.

And the return in the lobby of UPMC Hamot Women’s Hospital was a busy place. Only the first hour, let people of about 50 bags with everything from vitamins and cold pills to cardiovascular medicine and pain killers. At the end of the 4 hour was about 150 people are placed in 270 pounds medicine.

Hospital joined forces with the LECOM School of Pharmacy and Pennsylvania Sea Grant to collect and sell drugs. It was part of the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, coordinated by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, DEA.

Jeff DeBello of UPMC Hamot said: “Obviously you do not want kids to get this provides a sound way to get rid of the drugs that makes it out of the wrong hands and the other is … our partners from the Pennsylvania Sea Grant is interested in trying to keep everything of water resources “

Charity event finishes Conviction

murder of Timothy Love in the shooting death of 20-year-old Cameron Mitchell has concluded with a third murder conviction.

Mitchell was shot near the intersection of East 12th Street and the Bayfront Connector August last year while he gets a basketball.

Prosecutors say he was shot on a mobile phone.

One of the main witness was a friend of Love’s in the car with him at the time of the shooting. He was the one who allegedly distributed Charity pistol used in the confrontation.

    Bomb Threat at Verizon Building

    Erie Police investigators were called to the Verizon building at 10 and French in downtown Erie, when someone reported a bomb threat. Dispatchers confirmed that employees were evacuated to the nearby Avalon Hotel while police conducted a sweep of the building. They used a specially trained dog in the sweep, but found no bomb. The police try to figure out the person making the threat.

    Mill Creek house fire in research

    Mill Creek house fire in research

    a fire that has burned a house in Mill Creek is in research this morning. Firefighters spent the early morning, fighting flames and smoke in the house on 226 Roslyn Avenue. The house caught fire just after 1:00 Thursday morning. We are told two firemen were injured trying to fight the flames, but they are ok. The family that lives in the house, is reportedly on vacation.

    Search for armed man in Meadville

    Search for armed man in Meadville

    Meadville city police are seeking a man they believe is armed. Police said the suspect, Keith Green, ran when they tried to serve a warrant at 320 Loomis Street at 11:45 this morning. Allegheny College officials placed the campus to lock when the police searched the suspect around the college. At 2:00 the police said the search is concentrated near the Crawford County Fairgrounds along Route 77 Details WICU / WSEE tonight.
